Heart of Darkness

Like most people in this class I struggled with Joseph Conrad’s text,  as far into the work as I read that is.  I found it to be indulgently slow and over complicated.  His lush, descriptions intended to enhance the viewer’s visual stimulation and understanding, as well as to most likely get Joseph Conrad off just a little bit, overcomplicated the story and rendered myself very easily sidetracked.  Heart of Darkness is of course an important literary work submersing us into the horrors and darkness that is colonialism; I just struggled with the way in which Conrad laid out the story.  It is entertaining comparing the text to Disney’s portrayal of the pilgrims in Pocahontas.
